Making an engaging start is crucial if you want to keep your readers interested. This is why the first thing we have looked at in class is how to make a ‘Sizzling Start’. Jen McVite tells us a range of techniques to grab the readers attention, which have been put into some powerpoints, along with some practical activities to develop this skill.
Lots of really good authors use a range of these techniques in their stories. I personally recommend looking at some of Paul Jennings works (seriously, I love his stories as a kid, and a lot of his short stories were used for the “Round the Twist” TV series)
