Jen McVite tells us a range of techniques to grab the readers attention, which have been put into some powerpoints, along with some practical activities to develop this skill.

Lots of really good authors use a range of these techniques in their stories. I personally recommend looking at some of Paul Jennings works (seriously, I love his stories as a kid, and a lot of his short stories were used for the “Round the Twist” TV series)
